Maria Bridson is a senior Manx Advocate (qualified in 2003) and a recognised authority on Isle of Man immigration law. With unrivalled expertise in the Island’s immigration legislation, Maria has built a reputation for successfully guiding clients through complex immigration and nationality law challenges.  She is known for her practical advice and excellent track record of successful applications.

Maria’s diverse clients include high net worth individuals and international families multinational corporations and local businesses across a range of industries. Whether individuals are seeking to relocate to the Island to invest, establish a business or work, Maria acts as a trusted advisor offering prompt and practical advice on complicated issues.  Additionally, as a qualified advocate Maria can represent clients in appeals before the Immigration Adjudicator.

Maria has played an influential role in shaping Isle of Man immigration and nationality policy. She has provided expert input into government consultations and maintains strong working relationships with IOM Government departments. In her former role as Immigration Legal Officer for the Isle of Man Government’s Immigration Service and Attorney General’s Chambers, Maria was responsible for drafting the Island’s immigration legislation. She also advised the Isle of Man Immigration Service and UK Home Office on Isle of Man immigration, nationality and Brexit-related issues.

A respected voice in the media, Maria is particularly focused on raising awareness of Modern Slavery issues.  In 2024 she was awarded the Deemster Kerruish Endeavour Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to supporting victims of modern slavery. This prestigious award recognised her steadfast commitment to the preservation of human rights, protection of the vulnerable and advocating for the unheard Maria frequently speaks at local and international conferences on these critical topics.

Maria’s academic background is distinguished by first-class honours and professional exam distinctions. She began her legal career as a commercial lawyer at a leading firm, where she gained broad expertise in corporate transactions including investment funds, mergers and acquisitions and cross-border transactions. Maria also advises businesses on drafting agreements, redomiciling companies, regulatory compliance, shareholder agreements and advisory work. She combines her corporate law expertise with her immigration and employment law knowledge to ensure businesses and their owners relocate seamlessly to the Isle of Man.

Outside her legal practice, Maria serves as the Chair of the trustees of Isle of Play, an Isle of Man charity working for the rights of children and providing play schemes across the Island.
